Adoption Support

Welcome to the April’s Kittens family! Bringing home a new cat is exciting, but we know the first few days and weeks can come with questions. We’re here to help you and your new family member have a smooth transition and a happy life together.

Bringing Your new cat home

It’s completely normal for a newly adopted cat to be scared, shy, hide, eat less, or seem nervous at first. Give them time to adjust at their own pace.

We recommend starting your cat in a small, quiet room with:

  • Food and fresh water

  • A litter box

  • A comfortable bed or hiding spot

  • Toys and scratching surfaces

Spend quiet time nearby and let your cat approach you when they’re ready. Some cats settle in within a few days, while others may take several weeks.

Setting up your home

Veterinary Care

Your cat has received comprehensive, age-appropriate veterinary care while at April’s Kittens. All cats are microchipped and registered with your contact information, spayed/neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, given age-appropriate vaccines, and preventatively treated for intestinal parasites, fleas, ticks, and heartworm. Your cat’s medical records are emailed to you through Shelterluv for your records.

We recommend scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian shortly after adoption to establish ongoing care, discuss future vaccine boosters, routine wellness exams, and continue appropriate preventative care.

A full refund is available within 14 days of adoption if the cat is returned to April’s Kittens.

If you can no longer keep your cat at any point during their life, they must be returned to April’s Kittens according to your adoption agreement. Please do not surrender, give away, or rehome your April’s Kittens cat through a shelter, social media, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or another third party.
